Vipers To Face BUL FC in FUFA Super 8 Final

Vipers Sports Club will play BUL FC in the final of this year’s edition of the FUFA Super 8 competitions.

Coach Nikola Kavazovic’s charges booked their slot in the August 31 final with a 1-0 win against a Uganda Select Side at the Phillip Omondi Stadium-Lugogo on Sunday evening. Despite persistent pressure and playing on the front foot the entire game, Vipers needed a late Alan Okello winner to secure a return to Lugogo for the final.

New signing Kenneth Kimera played in captain Milton Karisa in the box. Karisa spotted Okello free in the box and passed a delicate ball to the creative midfielder. At such close range, Okello, who rarely makes mistakes, buried the game. Despite enlisting the services of seasoned forward Fahad Bayo late on, coach Sam Ssimbwa’s Select Cranes side fell short.

Former Vipers keeper Bashir Ssekagya had an enormous day in goal, shutting down his former employers. On the other hand, BUL secured their place in the final with a 1-0 win against Kitara FC. Pascal Ngobi scored the winner in the 63rd minute, ensuring the Jinja side will defend their title.

Vipers Vs Bull is always a cagey affair

In typical BUL fashion, they frustrated Brian Ssenyondo’s side defensively. In BUL, Vipers have a formidable foe ahead of the final. After playing free-flowing football against the Select Side, we wait for coach Kavazovic’s response to a BUL team that prefers to sit in. Last season, BUL beat Vipers home and away in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

In the other match of the night, ten-man KCCA needed penalties to see off Maroons. Abdallah Mubiru’s side beat the Luzira side 4-2 on penalties after a barren draw. Defender Musitafa Mujjuzi was sent off in a game the Lugogo faithful weren’t impressed with.

KCCA will play NEC in the battle for 5th/6th, while Maroons will take on Villa for the 7th/8th position on August 30.

NEC showed resilience coming from a two-goal deficit to beat Villa. A halftime score of 2-0 in favor of Villa was culminated by a 4-3 penalties win by NEC. NEC rallied from a 2-0 halftime scoreline to draw with SC Villa and then beat the Jogoos 4-3 on penalties.
