Namujju Calls Two Months in Prison a ‘Learning Experience’

Lwengo District Woman MP Cissy Namujju has described her close to two months in prison as a learning experience.

The embattled MP made the revelations at a thanksgiving service in her constituency. The service, held at St. Jude Catholic Church in Kyazanga Town, was organized by residents of Lwengo to celebrate her release.

“Some people have been visiting me in prison while crying. I told them not to cry because whatever I am going through is on my life calendar. I thank God for enabling me to follow my life calendar. It is not good to wish someone jail, but it is helpful for everyone to get the prison experience and know how the world is moving.” said Cissy Namujju, MP.

Namujju had spent 55 days in Luzira Prison on remand over corruption-related charges. Namujju was remanded alongside Yusuf Mutembuli and Paul Akamba over the same charges. Hon. Mutembuli and Akamba represent Bunyole East and Busiki County, respectively.

According to the charge sheet, the MPs allegedly solicited from Ms. Mariam Wangadya, the Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, a cut from the entity’s budget on May 13, 2024. Under this understanding, the MPs would pocket 20% of an enhanced Human Rights Commission budget.

However, following her security of bail, Namujju was welcomed with a heartfelt show of support from her constituents.

Namujju says prison is a life lesson

“Despite my wealth, it couldn’t shield me from imprisonment. This is a lesson I will carry with me for the rest of my life.” said Namujju.

The NRM cadre also likened her life to a fulfillment of dreams. She narrated to the residents how she always dreamt about the events surrounding her arrest and imprisonment way before they happened.

“About two weeks ago, I had a dream where Father Mbazzi and another priest were leading mass for me. This mass was in celebration of me leaving prison. I asked God in prayer if I will be in prison until Father Mbazzi returns from America.” MP Namujju said.
