Creative midfielder Bright Anukani has returned to Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club for a second stint.
Anukani’s return to Lugogo was announced through a crafty post on the team’s X account. The mercurial midfielder rejoins the Kasasiro Boys on a free transfer. This is after he left six-time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC at the end of last season.
Anukani left the Kitende money bags after the expiration of his three-year deal with the Venoms. Having joined Vipers in 2021, Bright had a fairly successful spell along Entebbe Road, scoring numerous big goals and assisting a number.
In his three years in Kitende, Anukani managed to win two back-to-back Star Times Uganda Premier League titles. Additionally, he won the Uganda Cup in 2023, completing a double.
Since the end of the season, there has been speculation about his next move. This was partly due to the expiration of his contract and the limited game time he received at the end of last season.
“I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to play at this great club. Thank you Vipers SC. And to all the staff in every department, from the top management to the helpers, not forgetting the media, thank you for the love and support.” Anukani bid farewell to Vipers.
As he was clearly not part of Vipers’ plans for the next season, he was a no-show at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende on Friday, 21st June, as Vipers’ first team players reported for pre-season training. This also served as new coach Nikola Kavazovic’s first session with the Kitende moneybags.
Anukani returns “home”
However, Anukani carried out individual training and was spotted having preseason practice with premiership side Bright Stars.
Anukani is no stranger to Lugogo, having come through the ranks with Proline Football Club. Following Proline’s relegation to the FUFA Big League in 2020, Bright joined KCCA on loan for a season. It’s after that season that he joined Vipers permanently.
