Nandala Mafabi Calls For Arrest of Legal Committee MPs

Nandala Mafabi

Budadiri West MP Nandala Mafabi called for the arrest of all legislators on the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee. Nandala believes these MPs have questions to answer regarding the approval of shs 1.7 billion service awards given to four Parliamentary Commissioners.

Nandala, who was speaking to journalists after signing a motion to censure the four Commissioners at Parliament on Tuesday evening, wondered what exceptional thing they did to earn these service awards. According to the former Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, these MPs should join their colleagues on the Budget Committee who are currently under police custody on allegations of running a corruption racket in Parliament.

The former Leader of the Opposition also noted that the Legal Committee had a mandate to highlight this anomaly to the house. According to Nandala, the fact that they never raised this on the floor of Parliament means that they should also be held responsible.

He said that when Parliament is debating reports on ministerial policy statements from various Committees, the Committees are required to highlight issues that are very vital.Nandala also intimated the possibility of the MPs’ silence being bought.

“They must have been given something to keep quiet and this one, the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee must answer,” Nandala Mafabi said.

The FDC secretary general also had time to boast about how he made the office of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament popular yet he was never rewarded.

What exceptional service did they offer?

According to Nandala, it was MPs who were supposed to award the service award because they are the ones the Commissioners serve.

“I am among the longest-serving MPs here. In the last 23 years I have been here, we have never paid a Commissioner anything,” Nandala Mafabi said.

“What did these people do that was very special that we gave them a handshake? What have these women and men Commissioners done? If you look at them, what capacity do they have more than Nandala? So how can you pay somebody for nothing?” Nandala Mafabi said.

He then called upon the Commissioners to return the money as that would absolve them. Additionally, he called upon them to defend themselves in case they still want the money.

“I am looking forward to that debate and they will show us what they did which is exceptional,” Nandala Mafabai.

Nandala also lashed out at the Commissioners for allegedly filling Parliament with their relatives in lucrative staff positions.
