Ssegona Rubbishes MPs Signing Motion to Censure Parliamentary Commissioners

Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Ssegona has rubbished the censure motion to relieve four backbench Parliamentary Commissioners of their roles. The Commissioners, including Mathias Mpuuga, have been under scrutiny for reportedly allocating themselves shs 1.7 billion without Parliament’s approval.

However, Ssegona, who was responding to requests by mourners at a burial ceremony, had no kind words for the MPs pushing the censure motion. These are led by Lwemiyaga County’s Theodore Ssekikubo.

While blowing his own trumpet about his brilliance and legal prowess, Ssegona took a jibe at other MPs, saying their interpretation of the subject matter is wanting. According to Ssegona, the MPs are exposing their limited knowledge of Parliamentary proceedings by alleging that the shs 1.7 billion service award wasn’t passed by them.

These Members of Parliament were in the House when we were passing the budget but they didn’t understand what they were passing.

According to Ssegona, the MPs are just seeking to score political points over an issue that the majority of the House agreed to.

If you’re as knowledgeable as I am, you know that once the majority of MPs agree on something, everyone is bound by that decision, whether they agree or not. Therefore, I have to stand by what Parliament passed.

Ssegona, who was particularly defensive of former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga, wondered why he’s being crucified for a decision that benefitted various people, including former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.

Ssegona also took the opportunity to share his dissatisfaction with events happening in his political party, the National Unity Platform. He wondered why voices of reason within the party are being sidelined.

About Censure Motion

Hon. Ssekikubo intends to achieve the removal of Esther Afoyochan (Zombo District Woman – NRM), Prossy Akampulira (Rubanda District Woman – NRM), Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central – NRM), and Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe – NUP) from their positions as members of the Parliamentary Commission with his censure motion.

Both Honourable Nganda Semujju and Medard Segona have come out to defend the service award.

The three NRM legislators took home Shs 400 million each, while the former Leader of the Opposition banked Shs 500 million in a one-off personal service award.

Mpuuga’s party, the National Unity Platform, has since taken drastic measures, including firing him from his position as Deputy President for the Buganda region.
