Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) President Moses Magogo has been sanctioned by the United States government. This development comes ahead of the US-hosted 2026 World Cup.
Engineer Magogo becomes a victim of the sanctions because of his relationship with Speaker of Parliament Anita Among. The Speaker has been sanctioned for alleged misuse of public funds.

In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, the U.S. government detailed the reasons for the sanctions against Speaker Among and several other Ugandan officials.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among is designated due to involvement in significant corruption tied to her leadership of Uganda’s Parliament. The Department is also designating Among’s spouse, Moses Magogo Hassim.
US government.
Although the sanctions are not new to the Magogo residence, as Hon. Among was sanctioned by the United Kingdom recently, this is a new development seeing as her husband has now been pulled into them.
One thing on every football fan’s mind is the possibility of the FA president watching the national team’s campaign at the World Cup from the comfort of his living room should the Uganda Cranes qualify for the 2026 showdown in the United States of America.

But without going that far, you need to understand the magnitude of the role a FUFA president plays in overseeing football activities from grassroots levels to the highest stages internationally. These sanctions affect Hon. Magogo’s ability to travel internationally, which in turn casts a disadvantage on the nation as his travels are usually on behalf of the football community.
Therefore, the sanctioning of Engineer Moses Magogo, who also doubles as Budiope East MP, could affect his ability to close key partnerships for the development of football in Uganda. This is because the sanctions could dent the credibility of the FA boss.
By press time, both Honourables, Anita Among and Moses Magogo, had not responded to the US government announcement.
